Well, I am a student studying abroad about medical science at University of Pecs in Hungary.

Right now, I am studying from internist. One day, a patient who abused steroid came to our hosipital.

I saw him and thought what exactly steroids can do to human.I have seen doctors who gave out the steroids to help patients, but is that mean it's ok to use?Many questions poped up, so I decided to do research about steroids. I am going to show what I research, so if there is some wrong statement about what I am going to write, please inform me.

Steroids are use by mostly men athletes like american football players, weight lifter, bodybuilder, and some track and fielder and those who uses all parts of the body.Also people who want to look like strong men use it.

Q. What parts of the brain are affected by drugs? By your drug? (Include a picture of the brain and the areas affected.

A. Although nothing would affect the brain such as addictions and atrophies by using this, using steroids as a drug can turn your body physically and mentally unhealthy.

Q. Why do people abuse drugs?

A.Many athletes and also people who are not athletes chooses to abuse steroids to make their body larger with a lot of muscles.

Q.What is an addiction? What does this mean? How do people become addicted?

A. Actually, there are no substance that makes this drug addictive, but people keep using by pressures.

One of the athletes wanted to make proof that he can do grood job in shot-put. The pressure from around him made him use of steroids. His muscles soon became larger, and he won one of the competition, but soon staff of the competition found out that he used steroid. Now he is having dark life.

Many people became addictive and won't stop it because they know that once they stopped abusing it, their bodies would go back to normal size.

What drug am I researching? I am researching about steroids.

Some questions to answer the general questions.

Q.How is the drug taken?

A. There are few types of ways of taking this.

The some steroids are in the tablets to prevent asthma and are given for asthmatic patients by doctor and it is not illegal.

Many people abusing steroids are taking it by either drinking pills or injections.

There are also in gel, patches, or creams.

This is for injection.

It is stronger and you only have to take once a week.

This one on right is tablets which has steroids in it.

Q.Is the drug a stimulant or depressant?

A. Well there are many kinds of people who used this, and many people think different ways.

Normally, when they start using it, many people feel great having huge muscles and also feel fear by thinking that they can't stop using it because if they do the bodies would go back to normal size.

So, I think it would make depressant.

Short brief history of steroid

Puberty has always provided visual evidence of distinct changes from childhood to young adulthood. Unfortunately the mechanism within the male body responsible for this transformation was poorly understood. It was not until the 19th century that clinical experiments revealed a hormone within the testes which was the catalyst for these changes. Testosterone (aptly named after the testes) was discovered, isolated, and later synthesized. The 1930’s synthesizing of testosterone marked the invention of AAS, as we know them today. Since then literally hundreds of different forms have been catalogued, while far fewer numbers were commercially produced.

Shortly after development, AAS were adapted for a variety of purposes including the increase of aggression in Nazi soldiers, elite-level athletics in the1950’s, and the very specific production for weightlifting athletes. However, by the 1960’s several major sporting organizations had already banned their use, and initiated extensive drug testing policies. In the mid 1990’s, the first Anabolic Steroid Control Act was passed under President George Bush. A decade later congressional hearings were held to curtail the growing AAS problem in athletics. By this time, every major reputable sporting organization from the high school level through the professional ranks had followed suit with anti-AAS regulations and testing policies.

*Reduced reproductive function: AAS can cause a reduction in sperm count, resulting in decreased ability to reproduce.
*Male Pattern Baldness: The genetically patterned loss of hair on the scalp caused by the AAS conversion into Dihydrotestosterone or its variants.

The companies in my country is not producing the steroid product, so the consumers are getting from outside the country. So most of the countries sell about same cost which is aroud 800thousand rupiah or above.

Statistics about the drug.
We don't know the exact number of people using the steroids but out of all users, 90% were men and 65% were athletes.
This part is not clear because there are companies still making the steroid products and black markets, where you can buy, and people buying is increasing.

Punishment for having or selling the drug in
Indonesia- It is forbidden unless it is from the doctor.
Own country- We are allowed to have steroids and drink it, but if you are competing in sports, you are not allowerd to use it.

The drug will affect families by...

Mostly, this drug would not affect whole family. Person who wants to use this uses because that person want to have larger body with muscles.

It is not illegal in my country so, it won't affect the comunity or law if you are not participating in any sports. Many sports competitions are forbidden to use the steroids.

Only thing that community inform is that it will be harmful for your body.

It is your responsibility to take care of you body.

Abuser

Player wearing red is Mike and is a steroid abuser. He is an American high school student and just became 11th grader. He plays American football, and he is no1 line man. He blocks to protect Quarter Back from opponent.

Of course his favorite food is beef steak. He hates to see his small muscles. Most of his friends are in Football club and they are as big and tall as Mike. He is very popular, and he stay in 11th grade hut with other mate and girls.

He is wealthy because his father has a small company. His father drinks alcohol often, but he is not smocking.

He always wanted to be better football player when he was freshman. One day, his friend brought some steroids. He heard that he would soon become big with muscles, so he started taking it. His euphoria of taking this is that he became big, and now he is best player in football team. Though there is a dysphoria about this, which that he didn't tell to his father that he is using it. In U.S., it is illegal to use steroids.

He is using drug, but he is good student and player. He has tolerance because his coach told him that he will be captain of the team next year. Using for almost 2 years, he takes 2 or 3tablets everyday. He says that he couldn't withdrawal because of the pressure from coach and teammates. He became addicted psychologically. He did fine these 2 years, but if coach would know, he will be busted.

Misuser

His name is Gary and he is 42 years old. He was a body builder and living in New York. If you see the picture, you would recognize his huge muscles. His hobby was weight lifting and he hated to see weak thin people. He had tolerance because he had some friends which was also competing in body building competitions. He was working hard every day.

Because he won many times, he is wealthy.

When he was a child, no one in his family was doing any of the drugs.

Although he tried hard to be better, he was misusing the steroids. Normal person need 2-3 pills, but he drunk 6-8pills a day. At first his beautiful muscle was euphoria to him. But few years later, he got heart attack and became thinner and thinner by not drinking the steroids because the steroids cause him to it. That was when he became dysphoria. He got addicted to it and never thought of withdrawal. Right now, he is sleeping at hospital

Recreational drug user

He is Bobby. Is 28years old and working at sports gym in Japan. He is from England. He likes to swim and he hates doing work outs. He loves eating juicy fried chicken. He is very popular to young women and manywomen come to gym to see him. He is not wealthy, but doing fine with normal life. When he was young, his dad had steroid. By watching his muscles, he wanted to be like his dad. So he started taking it.

When many girls come near him, he felt euphoria. He had no dyphoria. He didn't care about his health. He had tolerance, because he didn't get any diseases. Soon he added the doses of the pills.
He had become addicted and he felt recreation.

Most of the people get addicted to steroids by psychologically. They could not get away from this drug because they know that if they stop using it, their muscle get smaller.

If my family is affected...

*Because I have parents and 2brothers, it will cost 5times$100=$500 pills and 8times5=$400. It is a lot of money.

*Everybody in my family would increase the risk of diseases by side effects. If my family got addicted to this, my parents and brothers would only care about themseves and muscles. Then we will have no conversations between us. This would bring the separation to each of the members in our family.

I pick this picture because every one in the family is kind and cares about to each others. They are smiling. The color of this picture is brownish because it was taken long time ago. Back then, we had very warm family. But everything changed bcause of the new technology, culture, and international relationships. One of the members start using steroids because he wants to be cool by creating muscles, he broke the good relationship of family. First he used up all of the money. Then everybody started feeling miserable. After it, the family broke up. Parents divorced and kids went out to beg for food at the traffic.

I chose this picture because I thought this would describe what empathy is.
In this picture, there are American, Mexican, Japanese, Korean, Indonesian, African, and etc people in one picture. Many people in this picture are from different countries, believe in different religions and think or feel different ways.
The lifestyles and what they like or dislike can be different to.
What I want to say is that it is very difficult to be empathetic with other people because people are different.
There is no such person that everything is same as me. Same hobby, name, birthday, weight, what I feel....... (Physically& mentally)
It is ok to be different, and if not everything are same as another person.
But sometime, I see a person who acts like me not exactly me. Maybe I can be empathetic with that person. Or I like to play tennis. When I find a person who likes to play, I can be empathetic with him. There may be person who wants to sell drug. I know that I don't want be involved with drugs and never be empathetic, so I would stay out.
So... everyone is different. There may be someone who is similar. There may be someone who is totally different. What I can do is, at least be curious and talk with them, so that maybe I can be empathetic.

It would depend by which country you are living.
If you are living in Japan, you are allowed to have steroids,

What are three of my own stress-free, endorphin releasing activity?

1 I like to play tennis, so I would do at least 2-3 hours with my friends. This would make me feel good because I get to run a lot.

2 The marathon would be another sport that would make me stimulate by endorphin release.

3 When I take a hot bath, I would feel great because of the endorphin.

If I want to help the drug abuser who does not want to quit, I would...

I would first talk with that person. I would tell how come it is bad, why he should stop it, what would happen to him...etc.
Next, I would suggest that person to go to counselors and hospital to check his body.
If he refuses to quit, I would leave him alone.

We can't just give up steroids

We may think the following of abusers, “Why don’t they just make themselves give up on drugs? All they need is willpower.”

I'm not doing drugs, but I am addicted to video games, and I could not stop. I am very interested in technology and I like beating the enemies.
If someone asks me if I can stop playing, I can’t because I like it and it's my hobby.
If someone cried to stop and told me the side effects f playing video games, I will probably stop playing.
Video games and drugs are similar. If I was doing drug and someone who is close to me beg to stop, I think I will.

What I did wrong even though I knew it was wrong

Last time that I think I did wrong thing was yesterday.
I was watching TV, and I didn't turn it off, so the electricity was wasted because of my ego.
I didn't turn it off because I was lazy and was thinking about something else.

Drug abusers know they are doing wrong thing, but physically or physiologically, they became addicted. Steroid users are doing because they want to be cool by muscles.

How I felt about this kind of learning

It was great way to learn a lot by making blogs, though I had to research a lot about steroids.
I felt that I wanted to learn more deeply about different drugs, but I had fun making blog so it was ok for me about this assignment.
